Development Programme 2006

Newsletter January 2006

Welcome to the inaugural Waikato WDP training for 2005 – Block 1. This course intends to identify areas of strength, areas of weakness, and equip you with the pre-requisite skill and knowledge needed for you to develop your table tennis ability. The course is run by approved TTNZ coaches and serves as the official coaching programme run by Waikato Table Tennis. It is subsidized to make the cost affordable to you.

You will note that coaches in the advanced squads will make use of video to help refine your techniques as well as multi ball exercise while for the developing squads emphasis will be placed on improving your technique and fitness. We welcome beginners of any age from 6 years old to 100+. Beginners’ squads will focus on developing basic skills and having fun. Players new to us may be moved to groups most appropriate to your skill level once we have had the opportunity to assess your skills.

In accordance with the principles of WDP and Waikato Table Tennis the emphasis for Waikato provincial selections will be given to those players attending, performing, and playing at high levels within WDP and/or Tom Lui’s personal and group programme's, and/or the University PDP programme.

Start and Finish Times

Thursday 6.00pm to 7.30pm. For young payers make sure your ride home is here by no later than 7.00pm. It is also important for you to be here 5 to 10 minutes before the 5.15 start time. The session STARTS at 5.15pm. Your assigned coach will take roll calls.

Medical requirement
It is important for parents and players to inform us of any medical condition or medications you require when you register.

Contact numbers
Please supply an emergency contact number and contact with your registration

Apparel and bats

Please wear appropriate sports clothing (sports shorts or skirt, sports shirt, soft soled shoes for example court shoes or cross trainers)" for playing table tennis. There should be no jeans. Should you wish to purchase official table tennis sports wear or bats these can be bought or ordered from the on site store.

For those players that are new we strongly suggest that you buy bats from the stadium shop rather than a sports shop. This is because table tennis is a specialized sport with bats in sports stores usually of poor quality and not sufficient for the demands of this programme.

Coaches
WDP coaches are recognized nationally as approved table tennis coaches. In addition, WDP is proud to announce that at least 1, and maybe 2 (yet to be fully confirmed) of our coaches have coached our various New Zealand teams.

Cancellation Policy
If for any reason you are unable to make training session please make sure you have contacted your coach. Unexplained absences may result in your termination from the programme and your place given to the next person on the waiting list.
