Sarah has come a long way since her family immigrated to New Zealand from Taiwan when she was 10, unable to speak English and with no specific sporting skills.  She began playing in table tennis at the age of 14.  Her rapid advancement in just seven years in her chosen sport, despite being a “late starter”, demonstrates Sarah’s ability, determination, strong competitive streak, work ethic and active pursuit of excellence.

Sarah first represented New Zealand as a junior in 2002.  After a break in 2003, Sarah returned to active training in 2004, rapidly re-establishing herself at the top.  In 2005 Sarah won the Waikato women’s title for the fourth year, won open women’s tournaments in Auckland and the lower North Island and capped the year off by being selected for the test match against Australia and duly winning her match.

2006 started in excellent fashion for Sarah, being chosen in the NZ women’s team for the World Teams Championships recently held in Germany.  In her first opportunity to gain experience against the worlds’ best senior representatives, Sarah showed her ability to step up to a higher level, winning half of her matches. Sarah has also been selected in the NZ team for the Oceania Championships, held in late June, and has another busy year of study pursuing a conjoined degree in Law and Social Science.
