Table Tennis Recignised In Unversity Blues AwardsSarah Ho, recipient 2006 Blues Award

University Sport New Zealand has announced the recipients of prestigious New Zealand Universities Blues for 2006 and 2 table tennis players have received the award, Waikato's Sarah Ho and Peter Craven of Auckland.  They are the first table tennis players to win the award since Waikato's Sarah Finch did so in 1997. 

Other high profile student athletes to win the award for 2006 include NZ netballers Joline Henry, Laura Langman and Leanna Le Bruin, NZ rep golfer James Gill, rugby league international Jerome Ropati, All Black John Afoa, Anna Richards from the world champion Black Ferns, former world champion rower George Bridgewater, Commonwealth Games Gold Medal swimmer Moss Burmester and surf lifesaver Nikki Cox.

Peter CravenTo be recognised amongst such esteemed company is an honour in itself and caps off what was a truly outstanding 2006 for Sarah.  During the year she won 3 open women's tournaments singles events, represented NZ at the World Teams Championships, Oceania Championships and Australian Open, she was ranked 4th in the Open Women for 2006 and was Waikato Women's Singles Champion, Senior Player of the Year and Overall Player of the Year.  These achievements are testimony not only of her ability but of her hard work and persistence.

Awards Ceremony 2007

The 2007 NZU Blues Awards Ceremony will be held at the Great Hall (old National Museum), Massey Wellington, on Friday, 29 June 2007.
